It's when we take a late-night stroll (like any photographer 😅 ) before, during or after the golden hours that we sometimes come across some pleasant surprises. That's the case here with this photo taken in Hauts-de-France, in the Bois de Cise to be precise.
1. Cayeux sur Mer
Indeed, most likely, like all photographers, I was out with my wife in the early evening, when we decided to explore the south of the Baie de Somme up close (at the right times 😉 ). I'd set my sights on the pebble beach at Cayeux-sur-Mer, which is a fairly well-known destination for tourists. It was a nice walk, a relaxing seaside but I didn't find anything that caught my eye except this image below.
After about 40 minutes of walking without much photographic result, (the result will have been better in terms of physical activity 🤓), we decided to get back in the car to go a little further afield. That's when we arrived in Ault and its fine sandy beach. Very close to Ault, there was also the very long beach at Woignarue which didn't inspire me either. No perspective, no subject that interesting for my taste. Nothing but emptiness 🥺. Nevertheless, these are ideal daytime spots for sea bathing or sunbathing! ⛱️
The light was fading fast and I was beginning to think that it wasn't going to happen tonight, but I was lucky! Sometimes it happens. So we got back in the car and continued along the coast, heading south. In fact, between Cayeux-sur-Mer and Ault, at times I could see the white cliffs in the distance. But how and where should we go? (By the way, you can see them on the photo of Cayeux-sur-Mer above, very far away, very small but well lit in yellow!)
1. Le Bois de Cise
A small road then appears on the right, descending into a wood indicated a hotel restaurant "Le Cise".. (Which logically should have been by the sea. Naturally, I took this direction as an adventure, I cross the famous "Bois de Cise". and after about 2km arrive at a sort of large roundabout with grass and petanque courts! We decided to park and continue on foot. And there it is, just after the Bois de Cise, the magic begins again to me.
We had to descend a good number of steep concrete steps to reach a long, rocky beach (it was low tide). There were already 2 people there, 1 photographer and 1 videographer using a drone. I liked it straight away, the sun was right in front of me, in line with the puddles in the rocks, with golden reflections all over the water. I was inspired to do some sunsets with the play of reflections... So it was off to a series of photos, at last 🥳!
And of course, here I am in the middle of the white cliffs that have become "golden" cliffs 😎 with this golden lighting! I found the gap between the cliffs by accident. It's worth noting that this is how my wife and I.., we found ourselves opposite the Parc Naturel Marin des Estuaires Picards et de la Mer d'Opale (Picardy Estuaries and Opal Sea Marine Nature Park)This is an area of sea facing cliffs.
And that's the story behind this photo, thank you for stopping by and reading, if you'd like to read more photo stories go here and here to find out more about the Baie de Somme.
See you soon, David
